Sosnivka is transitioning to modern heating solutions
Within the Sheptytskyi community, the town of Sosnivka is steadily moving toward energy sustainability and independence. The heating season in schools and preschools is now provided by new individual solid-fuel boilers — a solution that not only saves resources but also ensures stable heat in educational institutions.

Previously, heat was supplied from an old central boiler plant with significant heat loss: substantial funds were spent inefficiently, and classrooms and group rooms remained cool. Today, this situation is changing systematically.
Currently, two solid-fuel boiler rooms for kindergartens—donated to the community by the international organization GIZ Ukraine—are already operational in Sosnivka, as well as three boiler rooms for schools, which the Sheptytskyi City Council purchased through a loan program totaling approximately 18 million hryvnias
“The introduction of energy-saving technologies means not only warmth in the classrooms but also comfort and safety for children and staff. Thanks to this, we can hold classes and play games without worrying about the cold. Modern energy-saving infrastructure is an investment in a happy childhood and the health of children,” notes Nataliia Kurinna, director of Preschool No. 6 of the Sheptytskyi City Council.
These solutions are a practical implementation of the Action Plan for the Just Transition of the Lviv Region’s Coal Micro-Region for the period up to 2030, the implementation of which is supported by the Power4Just Transition project, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie). The transition to alternative energy sources allows the community to reduce its dependence on centralized grids, improve energy efficiency, and use budget funds rationally.
